Party of European Socialists (PES) delegation hasn’t been allowed to meet Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (HDP) arrested Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is imprisoned in Edirne F Type Prison.
The delegation issued a press statement 200 meters away from the prison.
PES Chair Sergey Stanishev stated that they are concerned of the situation.
The delegation consisting of PES Chair Stanishev, Hannes Weninger from Austria, Ame Lietz from Germany, Giacomo Filibeck, Lorenzo Tieri, Pia Locatelli, Marietta Tidei and Brando Benfei from Italy, Marie Granlund, Jens Orbach and Johan Buser from Switzerland, Marie Rose Koro from France was accompanied by a HDP delegation consisting of HDP Vice Co-Chair Aysel Tuğluk, Bingöl MP Hişyar Özsoy and İstanbul MP Garo Paylan.
No permission for meeting
Meeting with Demirtaş was not permitted by Edirne Governorship, according to a report by Fırat News Agency.
Doğan News Agency reported that the press meeting to be held by the delegation, which was halted by gendarmerie, in front of the prison was banned by the governorship, and permission by the Ministry of Justice is required for a meeting. (BK/TK)
