Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Siirt MP Meral Danış Beştaş has submitted a Parliamentary inquiry and requested that the Parliament investigate the "the causes and effects of inconsistent and unlawful judgements given by the judicial bodies and the measures that could be taken about them."
In explaining her reasons for submitting the inquiry, Danış Beştaş has referred to what journalist and writer Ahmet Altan, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) former Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, former HDP MP İdris Baluken and many others have experienced during their legal proceedings.
"Verdicts of re-arrest given just after verdicts of release do not only torment the people who stand trial, but they also undermine the trust of people in the judiciary", Danış Beştaş has underlined.
'Law has become a tool for political motives'
HSP Siirt MP Danış Beştaş has explained her reasons for submitting the Parliamentary inquiry briefly as follows:
"One of the most burning and destructive issues on the agenda of the country is the current situation where injustice prevails and rules of law vary depending on person, place and time.
"Though it has long been a matter of debate that the law has become a tool for political motives and the "judicial' process has turned into a political sphere in itself, they would - at least - still care to abide by the rules of law.
"However, in the current situation, there are several examples indicating that the failure to abide by the rules of law has turned into an overt arbitrariness and we have been witnessing that the judicial mechanism does not fulfill its responsibility of abiding by the law.
'They are not isolated examples'
"None of these developments are isolated examples and it shows that erroneous judgements given by the judiciary are not related to individual incidents, but the power holders approach everyone that it considers to be oppositional with similar methods.
"The current government undoubtedly conducted various judicial operations by melting them all in the same pot and people were arrested in masses after the members of the judiciary, who considered a single word of a prime minister or government member to be an instruction, took action.

'It undermines the trust in judiciary'
"These steps that have been taken to legitimize injustice for a while now have also caused the members of the judiciary to lose their responsibility of abiding by the law. However, it needs to be noted that where there is injustice, we cannot talk about a society and it is inevitable that disintegration and breaking will be experienced in several fields, from economy to social peace, from individual lives to social lives.

'Climate of injustice needs to be handled'
"Moreover, we are directly bearing the consequences of an undermined trust in the judiciary in the form of current and deepening economic crisis, poverty, unemployment, increasing incidents of suicide and violence."
Accordingly, Danış Beştaş has requested that "the causes and effects stemming from the climate of injustice created by the verdicts of the judiciary within the context of above-mentioned examples." (TP/SD)
