Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) İzmir MP and Deputy Co-Chair in Charge of Ecology Murat Çepni has asked Minister of Environment and Urbanization Murat Kurum of the oil leak in Aliağa, İzmir.
Emphasizing that the leak reached the coasts between Yeni Foça and Gencelli, Çepni in his inquiry said:
“The citizens who noticed the environmental disaster conveyed the matter to respective units. There is the allegation that 10-15 tons of oil mixed in sea from a ship having a Panama flag.
“Pollution caused by oil leaks cause both momentary and long-term large scale environmental disasters, mass deaths and destructions. Aliağa region is under significant industrial pollution due to uncontrolled industrialization and this causes irreparable damage to ecological balance.
“It seems that the environmental massacres caused by oil tankers, which caused similar disasters, will continue”. (PT/TK)
