First and second clauses of the constitutional amendment proposal concerning lifting the parliamentary immunity of the MPs against whom lawsuits have been brought have been approved at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
Secret voting was held for the clauses. 536 MPs attended the secret voting. 348 MPs voted for, and 155 voted against while eight MPs abstained.
The first clause of the article in question has been approved with 350 votes while the second has been approved with 357 votes.
TBMM Deputy Chair Ahmet Aydın stating it will be passed to the second tour talks after at least 48 hours closed the session to be gathered at 10 a.m. on May 20, Friday.
Referendum is on sight
This result is in the range of referendum. In case the approving votes remain between 330-367, the possibility of referendum comes in sight. (NV/TK)
