The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly convened to discuss extending the resolution allowing cross-border operations against Syria and Iraq at around 6 p.m. today (October 8).
As of 7.36 p.m., the resolution has been approved by the General Assembly of the Parliament. That being the case, the resolution allowing cross-border military operations, which was to expire on October 31, has been extended and the necessary legal regulation has been adopted for the "Spring of Peace" operation to be launched into northern Syria.
CHP and İYİ Party have approved the resolution
While the ruling Justice and Development Party, the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and İYİ Party voted in favor of the resolution, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MPs voted against it.
Speaking at the weekly group meeting of her party earlier today, İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener announced that they would support the resolution.
Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu also stated, "We will say 'Yes' to the resolution with our hearts torn out".
While Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chair Devlet Bahçeli did not hold a group meeting due to his health problems, it was expected that MHP MPs would also vote in favor of the resolution. (PT/SD)
