Parliament of France Officially Condemns Operation Peace Spring

The Parliament of France took a vote yesterday (October 30) and passed a bill of law condemning Turkey due to its Operation Peace Spring launched into northern Syria on October 9.

Accordingly, the Parliament "has strongly condemned the Turkish military offensive in northern Syria and called for an immediate halt to hostilities."

"Noting the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in northeastern Syria, the essential role of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) as their allies in the fights against Daesh, the risk of major destabilization in the Middle East and the risk of resurgence of Daesh", the Parliament has also expressed "support for the SDF, including the Kurds and their Arab allies, who have been and remain their allies in the fight against Daesh."

The bill of law has 4 articles

The bill of law has been announced on the official website of the Parliament of France in following words:

"Noting the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in northeastern Syria;

Noting the essential role of our allies of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the fight against Daesh;

Noting the risk of major destabilization in the Middle East currently under way in the Turkish military offensive;

Noting the risk of resurgence of Daesh;

The national assembly

• 1. Strongly condemns Turkish military offensive in northeast Syria;
• 2. Calls for the immediate cessation of hostilities;
• 3. Affirms its unwavering support for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), including the Kurds and their Arab allies, who have been and remain our allies in the fight against Daesh;
• 4. Calls on the French Government to take all measures to support its Kurdish friends and allies, protect the civilian population, restore stability and prevent security chaos in the north-east of Syria."

Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey released a statement of condemnation regarding the bill of law on its website today (October 31).

"We strongly condemn decisions of the French National Assembly on Operation Peace Spring", the Ministry has indicated and added, "It is obvious that France has taken this decision against Turkey after its plans to establish a terrorist state in Syria has failed. (PT/SD)
