Ahmet Yener, head of the Supreme Electoral Council (YSK), announced that a total of 64,113,941 voters, both domestically and abroad, will be casting their ballots in the upcoming Presidential and 28th Term Parliamentary Elections on May 14.
Yener also stated that 4,904,672 voters will be voting for the first time in the elections within the country. If the Presidential Election goes to a second round, he reported that an additional 47,523 voters will be casting their ballots for the first time.
Moreover, Yener revealed that approximately 133,000 voters from earthquake-stricken regions have transferred their voting registration to other provinces. Two massive earthquakes on February displaced nearly 2 million people in 10 provinces.
At a press conference held at the YSK headquarters, Yener shared data on the number of voters inside and outside the country for the upcoming elections on May 14.
Yener noted that the number of voters within the country is 60,697,843, of which 30,710,790 are women, making up 50.6%, and 29,987,053 are men, comprising 49.4% of voters.
Here are some key statistics regarding the voters:
- 989,543 voters have orthopedic and visual impairments.
- There are 3,180,802 voters aged 75 and above.
- 191,884 polling stations will be established across 973 districts and 1,094 county electoral boards.
- 6,215 voters will cast their ballots in mobile polling stations in 421 districts.
- The number of imprisoned voters who are either detained or convicted of negligent crimes is 53,172.
- 4,671 customs polling stations have been set up.
- Nearly 600,000 voters' registration information was transferred to their new residence during the suspension period.
- There are 3,416,098 voters outside the country, of which 1,595,158 are female, accounting for 46.7% of the total.
- There are 1,820,940 male voters outside the country, accounting for 53.3% of the total.
- 277,646 voters will cast their ballots for the first time, and if the Presidential Election goes to a second round, an additional 2,435 voters will vote for the first time.
- A total of 5,040 polling stations will be established.
