Held annually to encourage cities to support sustainable transport systems, the European Mobility Week started yesterday (September 16).
Some 2,919 towns and cities from 51 countries have been registered to the event.
From Turkey, a record number of 500 municipalities will take part in the celebrations, said the EU Turkey Delegation.
EU Turkey Delegation Head Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut is scheduled to visit the events in İstanbul (September 17), Ankara (September 19) and Antep (September 21).
"The EU supports clean, comfortable and climate friendly urban mobility in all cities i Turkey. Our dream is a clean, comfortable and safe transportation. What are your dreams?" The delegation said on Twitter.
This year's theme of the mobility week is "Safe and Healthy with Sustainable Mobility," which explores cities' responses to the coronavirus pandemic.
In the capital city of Ankara, 7th Avenue will be closed to car traffic at 10 a.m. on September 19 to mark the "Car Free Sunday."
