Law enforcement units across 75 provinces have conducted operations to combat drug trafficking in a week, resulting in the apprehension of 3,880 suspects, the General Directorate of Security has announced.
According to the statement, these operations have yielded significant results, including the seizure of 47 kilograms of heroin, 12,000 units of Captagon, 18 kilograms of cocaine, 148 kilograms of skunk, 11,000 ecstasy pills, 149 kilograms of marijuana, 310 kilograms of methamphetamine, 12 kilograms of bonzai, 1,442 cannabis plants, and 200,000 synthetic pills.
The number of individuals detained or convicted for drug offenses in Turkey has witnessed a staggering surge from 36,000 to 128,000 within the past seven years, according to the Interior Ministry.
Data from the Ministry of Justice further indicates that the overall inmate population stands at 341,497, which means approximately one-third of all incarcerated individuals are serving sentences related to drug-related crimes. (AS/VK)
