More than 148,000 women have used a mobile application of the Ministry of Interior to report violence to the police, Minister Süleyman Soylu has announced.
The Women's Emergency Support (KADES) application was introduced on March 24, 2018. Since then, 2,334,738 people have downloaded the app, said the minister.
By receiving location information from phones, the app enables police to reach women who are subjected to violence.
Soylu's statement came in response to a parliamentary question by main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer.
Gürer said incidents of violence against women do not decrease despite all measures and called for "deterrent measures." (EMK/VK)
