Women and LGBTI+s gathered in Tünel Square in Beyoğlu, İstanbul, to mark the International Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Women.
The police blocked all streets leading to İstiklal Avenue, as well as to Tunnel Square and Taksim Square in the evening, shortly before the announced time of the demonstration. The district governor yesterday (November 25) declared a demonstration ban.
After blocking the streets, police officers told journalists who wanted to pass through that "it was especially banned for journalists."
Women led by the November 25 Women's Platform gathered in Asmalımescit attempted to march towards Tünel Square at 6.30 p.m., chanting the slogans, "Go down with your bans," "Jiyan azadi," and "Let the father come, let the husband come, let the state come, let the batons come."
