Hatice Taş and Osman Karabulut, the dismissed co-mayors of İkiköprü town in the mostly Kurdish-populated southeastern province of Batman, have been remanded in custody.
Twenty-four people, including the co-mayors, were detained during house raids on Monday (June 22) by the gendarmerie. Fourteen of them were released on Wednesday and 10 appeared before a court yesterday (June 25).
Among those seven were released on the condition of judicial control, and three people, the co mayors and Bayram Özalp, a municipal worker, were remanded in custody.
Batman Governor's Office announced on December 7 that the co-mayors were replaced with a trustee appointed by the Ministry of Interior. (TP/VK)
