Jiyan District Market, a bazaar type market where only women will be allowed to work, has been opened in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır with a concert performances of Zilan and Koma Nujiyan.
The market projects has been established with the support of Bağlar District Municipality. An opening ceremony has been held yesterday with the attendance of Kurdish politicians including BDP Co-Chairperson Gülten Kışanak, BDP deputies Nursel Aydoğan, Sebahat Tuncel, Bağlar district mayor Yüksel Baran and other local politicians.
Addressing to the crowd yesterday, Bağlar district mayor Yüksel Baran underscored the importance of social service alongside with urban services. He also added that they were working on more plans that would encourage more female employment in their district.
BDP Co-Chairperson Gülten Kışanak, on the other hand, signaled her support to encourage women to work in local business and urged other municipalities to do the same.
“There is no profession that women can’t do,” she said.
Jiyan District Market is located in Bağlar Municipality Arkası Engelsiz Yaşam Park in Diyarbakır. (ÇT/BM)
