On March 8, 2020, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Van MP Muazzez Orhan submitted 17 Parliamentary questions on the occasion of World Women's Day. Her questions have been answered three months later.
'14 directors of education on the district level'
In her Parliamentary question addressed to Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk, Orhan asked, "As of 2020, how many women in Turkey are illiterate?" and "What is the rate of women who are principals and deputy principals at school administrations?".
The following answer has been given to these questions:
"The number of women provincial directors of education affiliated with the Ministry of National Education is three and that of women district directors of education is 14. Six women personnel are currently on duty as foreign representatives in the organizations operating abroad.
"The rate of women in office as principals at the official schools and institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education is 9.55 percent while the rate of women deputy principals is 2.11 percent."
'Only two directors of agriculture'
Orhan also addressed a Parliamentary question to Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli on the occasion of World Women's Day.
Orhan asked the minister, "What is the rate of women who benefited from the incentives granted by the Institution for Aiding Agricultural and Rural Development (IPARD)?" and "How many women personnel work in provincial directorates and other agencies?".
These questions have been answered as follows:
"In the first term of the IPARD Programme, a total grant of 499 million TRY was paid to 1,079 women beneficiaries while a grant contract worth of 798 million TRY in total was signed by 1,502 women beneficiaries in the second term. The payment process of the second contract is still underway.
"While there are 16,736 women personnel working in our central and rural organizations based on the Laws no. 657 and 4857, the number of women provincial directors affiliated with our ministry is two." (EMK/SD)
