One soldier has lost his life and two soldiers have been wounded in a fire opened to the Şehit Bülent Aydın Military Post in the district of Aralık in Turkey's eastern province of Iğdır.
Two soldiers wounded in the attack launched against the military post on Turkey-Iran border have been taken to Iğdır and Aralık State Hospitals.
Releasing a statement about the attack, the Governorship of Iğdır has announced that the attack was carried out by the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) members who crossed the Iranian border and a conflict ensued after the attack. An operation has been launched in the region.
Statement by the governorship
In its statement, the Governorship of Iğdır has stated that "the attack was conducted at around 2.30 a.m. today (January 4) by a group of presumably 8-10 separatist organization members, who opened fire on the military post with rocket launchers, hand grenades and long barreled weapons."
The Governorship has also indicated that the dead body of one PKK member was found on the scene of incident in the morning and it is thought that two other dead bodies were carried to the other side of the border.
Attacks on Iğdır-Iran border
The same military post on the Iran-Turkey border was also attacked on November 28, 2018 and one soldier was injured in his leg.
Another attack was carried out against the Kurtömer Border Military Post on January 1, 2019 and one soldier was slightly wounded.
On December 25, 2018, an armoured military vehicle overturned, which claimed the life of one soldier. (AS/SD)
