A soldier was killed yesterday during clashes with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Iraq's Kurdistan region, the Ministry of National Defense has announced.
The soldier, identified as Mehmet Can, 21, was a contracted infantry soldier. His body will be sent to his hometown, Osmaniye, for funeral.
The "Operation Claw-Lock" commenced on April 17, 2022, as a part of the ongoing series of "Claw Operations" initiated in May 2019. These operations aim at countering the activities of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), predominantly located in the Qandil Mountains in Kurdistan.
As the operations unfolded, the confrontations between the military and the PKK have notably shifted from Turkey to Iraqi soil. (EMK/VK)
