Parliamentary Speaker Köksal Toptan has said, “If there is no big setback, the hounourable Obama will meet, even if only for a short tmie, with the opposition leaders, probably in my room. They will have short, private, individual meetings.”
Devlet Bahçeli, leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) had said that he disapproved of a three-way meeting with the US President, i.e. a meeting of all three opposition leaders together.
Deniz Baykal, party chair of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and Ahmet Türk, leader of the Democratic Society Party (DTP) had agreed to a group meeting.
According to Toptan’s announcement, Obama will meet Toptan first on 6 April, and then he will make a speech in parliament.
Obama is coming to Ankara on 5 April. Toptan has said that the speech in parliament will be covered by 350 journalists, 125 of them coming from abroad. (TK/AG)
