The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the workforce statistics for June 2018 today (September 17).
The unemployment rate in June has remained the same in comparison with the same month last year and been measured as 10.2 percent. The rate of unemployment has increased by 0.5 points when compared to May 2018.
In this period, the number of the unemployed has increased by 64 thousand people and become 3 million 315 thousand people.
In the same period, the non-agricultural unemployment has fallen by 0.1 points and been estimated as 12.1 percent.
In June 2018, the youth (ages of 15-24) unemployment rate has decreased by 1.2 points and become 19.4 percent. The unemployment rate in 15-64 age group has remained the same and been measured as 10.4 percent.
Employment rate is 48 percent
The number of people employed has increased by 611 thousand people in June in comparison with the same period last year and become 29 million 314 thousand people. Employment rate has been measured as 48.4 percent.
In June 2018, while the number of people working in the agricultural sector has decreased by 133 thousand people, the number of people working in non-agricultural sectors has increased by 744 thousand people.
19.2 percent of the people employed in this period work in the agricultural sector, 19.6 percent of them in the industrial sector, 7.2 percent in the construction sector and 54 percent of them in the service sector. (HA/SD)
