Today is World Sparrow Day.
Doğa (Environment) Association says “Not without sparrows”, and calls for attendance for events in İstanbul, İzmir and Eskişehir.
Celebrated since 2010, World Sparrow Day aims to draw attention to the vanishing of sparrows due to parks.
Their population is decreasing
According to information given by Doğa Association, population of the sparrows is decreasing all over the world.
68% of the sparrows have disappeared in England in the last 40 years. The sparrows are added to the red list as endangered species in the Netherlands.
Stating that sparrows have been decreasing in the Anatolia in the last 10 years, the association underscores that increase in constructions and decrease in parks threaten life of sparrows like humans.
Events
Events were organized at 10 a.m. at Validebağ Korusu in İstanbul, at 7 a.m. at Dedekorkut Park in Eskişehir for the Sparrow Day. People will meet at Enternasyonel Fuar (International Fair) in İzmir at 1 p.m.
“Everyone can organize an event at their nearest park to participate in March 20 World Sparrow Day”, the association calls. (BK/TK)
