An operation was launched this morning (April 19) against people campaigning for "No" vote in the referendum held on April 16.
Freedom and Solidarity Party (ÖDP) İstanbul Provincial Executive Mesut Geçgel, also taken into custody, has posted on Twitter that he had been taken into custody for "protesting against the 'legitimate' yes votes".
The detainees are not being allowed to see their attorneys. According to the information acquired by attorneys, the "No" campaigners have been taken into custody for "carrying out a "No" campaign and for demonstrating against the Supreme Election Board's (YSK) decision to consider the unsealed ballot papers valid.
Attorney Deniz Özen talking to bianet has informed that there were several detentions but that they could not reach the full list yet.
The reason for the detentions is not known yet
Students' Collective on their website has announced that many students were taken into custody for "propagandizing for the illegality of the 'yes' result" in the referendum. (NV/DG)
