A nine year old child, Yusuf Y., died in hospital after he was shot in the head with a bullet coming from the other side of the border, in Turkey's border city of Urfa, the Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reported.
The bullet came from Syria's northeastern city of Serêkaniyê (Ras al-Ayn), which has been under the control of Turkey since 2019.
Yusuf Y. was first taken to the state hospital in Ceylanpınar and later transferred to a private hospital in the city of Urfa for further treatment.
The boy lost his life after three days in intensive care and his body was taken to the morgue of the Urfa Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) for autopsy.
Yusuf Y. was later in the day buried in the Ceylanpınar Modern Cemetery in the afternoon (May 10).
Statement from Urfa Bar
"The state is obliged to provide safe places to live for children," said the Urfa Bar Association in a statement it published after the death of the child.
"We call on authorities to perform their duties for the protection of the right to live and ending such violations. We send our condolences to the family, we will be by their side " it stated. (AÖ/TB/VK)
