The Boeing 737-800, which had reportedly flown from Istanbul, split into three sections as it came down in a field close to the airport. Photographs of the crashed plane shown on Turkish television showed the fuselage split near the front of the wing and the tail section sheared off.
Nine people are reported to have been killed in the crash, three of them crew members. Fifty people are said to be injured, 25 of them seriously.
Acting Mayor Michel Bezuijen of the Haarlemmermeer municipality said in a press meeting in Amsterdam that it seems like the plane had insufficient fuel to complete a successful landing. He added this is only an assumption and not an official statement on the cause of the crash.
A source close to Turkish Airlines has told bianet that cabin crew Hasan Tahsin Arız, Murat Sezer and Tolga Özgül have survived. The same source said that one, unnamed, member of the crew had lost their life, and that one member was seriously and one slightly injured. (AG)
