Journalists’ Union of Turkey (TGS) Women and LGBTI Commission has sent new year card to their imprisoned colleagues.
Journalist women gathering at Galatasaray Square in İstanbul today (December 18) said, “Our women colleagues face the risk of death, detention, naked body search, and torture while doing journalism to inform us on what is happening in the cities where a reckless war goes on, curfews declared, and people get killed under police and military blockade”.
It has requested JİNHA reporter Vildan Atmaca arrested on November 14 and all other imprisoned journalists to be released.
Following the statement, notices telling what JİNHA correspondent Beritan Canözer with Atmaca detained by forcefully being put in a Ford Ranger by security forces went through were distributed on İstiklal Street.
While a journalist handed a notice to a man whom she said, “Do you know why journalist women cannot do journalism?”, the man responded “They shouldn’t do it anyway. May they give birth to a child”.
Afterwards, new year cards “You are not alone” written on them were sent to imprisoned journalist women.
