The New Welfare Party (YRP) is an Islamic tendency political party, led by Fatih Erbakan, Necmettin Erbakan's son.
Fatih Erbakan announced today (March 20) that they will not be participating in any of the election alliances.
"After comprehensive discussions, we have decided to run in the May 14 elections without joining any alliance", Erbakan said in the party headquarters.
His father Necmettin Erbakan was the founder of the "National Vision" (Milli Görüş) movement, and also the Welfare Party (RP) which was closed by the Constitutional Court in 1998.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's Justice and Development Party (AKP) was founded by a split movement from the RP.
The YRP president also informed that he will apply to the Supreme Election Council (YSK) himself as the presidential candidate of his party.
Erbakan emphasized today when announcing that they will not be joining any alliance, that the National Vision cause is 90 years old but has roots much earlier in history, and cited Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, Saladin, and the Ottoman sultan Mehmet II.
What happened
Recently meeting with AKP representatives in the scope of their efforts to expand their election alliance, YRP had set 30 conditions for joining the People's Alliance of Erdoğan's AKP, and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
The conditions included amending Law no. 6284 on preventing violence against women and closing LGBTI+ associations.
Law no. 6284 is regulating the principles and procedures for fighting violence against women.
YRP representatives had claimed that their request was accepted by AKP, which was refuted by the party.
Women politicians of AKP, including a minister and a group deputy chairperson, had said that amendment of the law was out of the question. (EMK/PE)
