Another statement has been made by Spokesperson for the Government of Germany Steffen Seibert about imprisoned citizens of Germany in the wake of release of Die Welt’s correspond to Turkey Deniz Yücel, who remained behind bars for one year in Turkey.
According to Deutsche Welle, Seibert said that they have been continuing to make efforts to have imprisoned citizens of Germany be freed.
In his statement, Seibert said that the “government continues its efforts for German citizens convicted for political reasons continue through ‘all channels’”.
There are five imprisoned citizens of Germany
Since there was no international travel ban, Deniz Yücel left Turkey for Germany after he was released. Yücel was kept in prison for over a year without an indictment. The trial of Yücel, who is facing from 4 to 18 years in prison, will begin in June.
The number of imprisoned citizen of Germany dropped to five with Yücel’s release.
