Following suit after Kadıköy, Ataşehir, Kartal and Maltepe municipalities, the workers of Beşiktaş Municipality have decided to go on strike.
As reported by Evrensel newspaper, the Public Services Employees Union of Turkey (Genel-İş) İstanbul European Side No. 1 Branch, organized within the municipality, has put a sign announcing the municipal workers' decision of strike as no agreement can be reached in the collective bargaining for a labor contract with Beşiktaş Municipality administration.
Union's Branch Chair Mehmet Pehlivan has referred to the attitude of the municipality administration as the reason for the failure to reach an agreement during the collective bargaining process that has been continuing for nearly 7 months. Municipal workers have hung the sign of strike on the municipality building, announcing that they will go on strike as of March 15.
