Motion for stay of execution adopted for Assist. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şener who has been discharged as a result that Mersin University didn’t renew his contract.
Şener whom we met in front of the Çağlayan courthouse where hearing of the four academics will be held said he joyful and hopeful.
“We will apply to return to school by showing the ruling. The school has an objection period of one month. Five academics other than me have been fired from Mersin University. The cases are different from each other but the ruling is promising.
“It is also promising to see that legal rules haven’t been abolished entirely, and there are judges protecting law. We hope following cases will result similarly.
“We also expect the arrested academics to be released. We know that their arrest is not necessary, and doesn’t rest on law”.
The court: It might bring about unrecoverable damage
Şener’s three-year contract expired this year on January 13. His contract wasn’t renewed despite him submitting it on time and positive decision of the board of Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.
The allegation told him that the faculty administration gathered two days after the contract expired, however, he says even the chancellor accepts that it is a “pretext”. Five other academics were fired from Mersin University following discharge of Şener.
Motion for stay of execution was adopted yesterday by the Mersin 2nd Administrative Court.
The court noting not extending term of office might bring about unrecoverable damage ruled motion for stay of execution. (BK/TK)
