A committee made up of managers of the Mothers of Peace (Barış Anneleri) and The Religious Scholars Solidarity and Cooperation Foundation (DİAYDER) visited families in Diyarbakır that are doing a sit-in protest saying their children were taken to the mountains.
The Mothers of Peace told the protesting families: “Come and let’s all go to Ankara for the resolution for this problem.”
Undercover police showed up during the visit and tried to send the Mothers of Peace away, saying, “You came to provoke people; the families don’t want you here, please go away.”
“May we have peace for all children”
DİAY-DER manager M. Hadi Koç declared, “Your children are our children too. We came here for peace. Be patient; we will do whatever Islam requires. You are downtrodden too. May Allah help us all. The government can solve this problem in 24 hours if they want. The government acted with a policy of annihilation in this region for years. But it’s a pity for the mothers; we hope that when peace comes, all our children will come too. We’re calling out to all government officials for the resolution of the problem; let’s finally have peace.”
Mother of Peace Emine Özbek spoke, “I understand you. We would sit here too if it helped the issue. Come and let’s all sit and protest together in Ankara. I’ve suffered this pain too. The government has to solve this problem. We’ll come with you wherever you want to go. All mothers want peace. Peace is a good thing. We don’t want mothers to cry. Erdoğan should solve this problem since he says he doesn’t want mothers to cry. An honorable peace cannot be one-sided. We support you; may the government resolve this problem and bring all our children back. We are all Kurdish; your children are our children. We want those in guerrilla forces and those in prison to come back.
The protesting families stated after these declarations that they found the visit meaningful, and added, “We also want this problem to be resolved for good. We want those in guerrilla forces and the ones in prison to be let go. We are ready to go wherever the resolution may be found.” (ÇT/PU/BM)
