About 18,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer over the past year in Turkey, according to a statement by the Ministry of Health.
Breast cancer is the most common and fatal type of cancer for women both in Turkey and the world. It is also among the 10 most common types of cancer.
The frequency of breast cancer per 100 thousand people is 46.3 for the world, 45.6 for Turkey, 92.6 for Northern European countries, 38.3 for the US, and 39.2 for East Asia, according to the statement.
Women are about 100 times more likely to have breast cancer, the Ministry also noted, saying that healthy nutrition, a diet rich in food and vegetables, increased physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight and staying away from cigarettes and alcohol reduce the risk of all cancers, as well as breast cancer.
