Initial statement has come from Turkey after US sanctions on Iran entered into force yesterday (August 7).
Interviewing to A Haber, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez said, “We’ve contracts, our relation with Iran continues. This is a unilateral decision, we are carrying out a legitimate business”, concerning the US sanctions.
Expressing that business relation between Turkey and Iran goes long back, Minister Dönmez went on:
“We are buying natural gas of 9.5 billion meter cube”
“Our natural gas import has been made based on a long-term contract and this will last until 2026.
“We are buying natural gas of 9.5 billion meter cube per year from there. Since we cannot afford leaving citizens without electricity in cold and dark, our trade will continue as per contract clauses”.
Trump: Anyone doing business with Iran will not do business with the US
US President Donald Trump made a statement yesterday on Twitter in the wake of the sanctions coming into force and delivered a message to countries which continue business with Iran.
“The Iran sanctions have officially been cast. These are the most biting sanctions ever imposed, and in November they ratchet up to yet another level. Anyone doing business with Iran will not be doing business with the United States. I am asking for world peace, nothing less!” (PT/TK)
