The attendance in the face to face education is about 80 percent as more students will return to school as part of the "third phase" of the reopening, Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk has said.
Preschool and first-grade students started in-person education on September 21, which was followed by the "second phase" on October 12 when students and grades 2, 3, 4 and 8 returned to school.
President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced yesterday (October 22) that the third phase would start on October 2.
The fifth and ninth-grade students will start face-to-face education, which is important as these are first grades of the middle school and high school, respectively, said Minister Selçuk.
"They are still in the process of meeting new teachers and facing a new curriculum. It was very important for them to start early, "he said.
Regarding the attendance in classes, Selçuk said, "There is nearly 80-percent attendance. I can say that this attendance is above our expectations. In general, there is a participation of over 70 percent at all levels. But in some it reaches 90 percent, in others, it is at 75 percent." (RT/VK)
