Saffet Uyar, the owner of a mine in Ermenek where 18 workers were trapped (and presumably dead), surrendered to the police yesterday. 8 are under detention within the investigation.
Earlier, it was announced that he would surrender to the police along with his lawyers during the day.
On Saturday, Energy Minister Taner Yıldız announced that at least 8 were ordered for detention. Among these, 7 were detained including company administrators.
For Saffet Uyar, an arrest warrant has been issued.
“My client Saffet Uyar has medical issues due to the latest incident, he has chronic heart disease. However, he said that he would be ready to appear before the justice authorities whenever it is asked him to,” his lawyer said in a statement. (ÇT/BM)
