25 people consisting of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University students and graduates have been taken into custody in house raids.
Attorney Efkan Bolaç speaking to bianet has stated that there is confidentiality order on the file. The students have been expressed to be charged with being member or sympathizer of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front, staging protest in the campus, and defaming academic who doesn’t act with him/her.
Bolaç stating they have been detained within the scope of a file belonging to 2014 said common feature of students among whom there are graduates as well is to submit a petition to the university with respect to willing to not take a lecture from a specific academic.
Is the petition submitted against the academic the reason of detention?
Bolaç said the students submitted petition to deanship to not take lecture from Assist. Prof. Dr. Esra Keskinkılıç who teach Ottoman language at Department of Turkish Language and Literature.
The students alleging that Keskinkılıç had said to a laughing woman student, “A woman shouldn’t laugh like that. I suppose you’ve forgotten where you are now” had staged a protest.
According to the report of Habertürk released on November 25, 2014 Keskinkılıç had refused the allegations. The report published on Vatan daily on December 6, 2014 had expressed that Keskinkılıç stated that he has filed criminal complaint for not having life safety. (BK/TK)
