Devlet Bahçeli, the Chair of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), which is in the People's Alliance with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), spoke at the weekly group meeting of his party at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) today (May 18).
In his speech, Bahçeli targeted the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and talked about the "mafia and politics debate", which has once again come to the public agenda of Turkey following the allegations of Sedat Peker, who is accused of leading a criminal organization and currently abroad.
Referring to CHP Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who said that "the third partner of the ruling People's Alliance was the mafia," Bahçeli said, "We think that he should first look at himself and look over his contacts."

Speaking about the allegations, Bahçeli stated, "We don't know the mafia, we don't care about the mafia, we know nothing about the mafia."
He added, "Gangs are the comrades of the CHP, drug lords are the comrades of the CHP. The CHP is going crazy as Turkey is making progress in the struggle against terrorism. While the İYİ Party does not say a single word, the HDP is getting a shock over and over again." (DŞ/SD)
