20th Metin Göktepe Journalism Awards have been delivered to its laureates with a ceremony held at Barış Manço Cultural Center.
In addition to Kadıköy Mayor, journalists and figures from political and media arena attended the award ceremony organized on birthday of Metin Göktepe, who was murdered on January 8, 1996 as he working as correspondent at Evrensel newspaper.
Metin Göktepe’s mother Fadime Göktepe didn’t attend the ceremony this year due to her illness.
In addition to awards for written and visual news, photography and local journalism, three jury’s special awards were granted.
Elif Akgül from bianet and Canan Coşkun from Cumhuriyet newspaper were given Jury’s Special Award for their file, which was published simultaneously on both bianet and Cumhuriyet between January 18, 2017-January 20, 2017, on the chronology of Hrant Dink murder, which was committed 10 years ago.
The other jury’s special awards were granted to dihaber correspondent Abdurrahman Gök for his photograph of the moment of police shooting Kemal Kurkut in Newroz celebrations, and to journalist Ahmet Şık for his article series titled “Codes of July 15 [coup attempt]” published on the Cumhuriyet between December 8-13, 2016.
