There are many workers diagnosed with Covid-19 in the metal sector as factories continue operations despite the pandemic, according to a report by the Metal Workers' Association.
The report comprises observations on more than 100 factories from various provinces, especially Kocaeli, Bursa, İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir.
While many factories have not stopped operations, some halted production due to decreased orders and problems in the procurement of spare parts, the report says. "The production units that were first affected by the world-wide epidemic and decided to stop were automotive factories."
Factories that continue operations implement the measures announced by the Ministry of Health "only for show," the report further says. "Although the distance rule and contact rules are applied, these rules cannot actually be followed in production."
While big factories "have a reflex" to continue production under any condition, small and mid-size factories do not apply health measures at all, according to the report. (EMK/VK)
