Addressing the reporters at the traditional summer conference today (July 22), Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel also spoke about the policies of European Union (EU) and Turkey on refugees.
Praising Turkey for hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees as part of its agreement with the EU, Merkel said that "she wants close relations with Ankara, but does not anticipate Turkey's accession to the EU."
As reported by Reuters News Agency, Merkel said, "Turkey is doing an outstanding job of taking care of Syrian refugees."
"I would like this agreement [on migrants and refugees] with Turkey to continue; this is the best for the people," she added.
