Men threatened women with death in Manisa, Antep, Antalya, Konya, Odu, Hatay, Adana. They attempted to kill two women in İstanbul and one woman in Kocaeli. A man drove his wife to suicide in Konya.
In Ankara, one woman had to kill the man who inflicted violence on her daughter by using her right of self-defense; in Antalya, a woman named M.İ. used her right of self defense and killed her husband R.İ., who handcuffed and detained her naked and battered her for hours.
Murder/Feminicide
In January 2021, men killed at least 22 women and two men who were with the women; last January, this number was 21. One of the men killed the woman after being released from prison.

Sexual assault/ Rape

Two women sexually assaulted by men were from Uzbekistan. The rape was understood when one woman got pregnant.
One woman was raped by her father, one woman was raped by the lawyer with whom she was doing her law apprenticeship and one woman was raped by her manager at her workplace. The degrees of acquaintance were not reported in six incidents of rape.
Men raped five women inside the house and four women in places outside the house such as a law office and the subway.

Harassment
Men harassed at least nine women in January 2021. This figure was 16 in the same month last year.
Eight women did not know the men who harassed them. One woman was harassed by a political party (CHP) executive.

Child abuse
Men abused at least 12 children, including boys. This figure was 31 in the same month last year.
At least eight children did not know the 25 men who abused them. One child was abused by his/her elder brother, one was by his/her father, one by his/her teacher and one by the owner of a grocery store where she/he went shopping.

In January, men forced at least 28 women to sex work. This figure was 121 in the same month last year. 23 women who were forced to sex work were not citizens of Turkey.

Explanation The bianet Male Violence Monitoring Report only covers women who lost their lives as a result of male violence. We do not include any violence cases or crimes that are not gender-based. Throughout the year, we keep track of unidentified murders and suspicious deaths of women in separate monthly tallies but do not add them to the number presented in the headline. At the end of the year, we examine these cases of unidentified murders and suspicious deaths to determine whether the crimes were gender-based. We add the gender-based incidents into the report. We do not include any murders in the reports that are committed by people with psychological disorders (such as murders committed by people with schizophrenia). We include suicide or suicide attempt incidents in the tally only if the woman was subjected to violence/ systematic violence in her past. We cover these suicide incidents in a separate category and do not add suicide cases to the number presented in the headline. In addition, we don't include femicide cases that occur in a mass murder in which the woman was not directly targeted under the condition that the debated incident is not gender based either. Occupations of the offenders only included in the reports when the incident of violence is related to the occupation of the offender.
