The İstanbul Governor's Office has banned all events and demonstrations in the city until May 17, citing the government's "partial lockdown" measures due to the pandemic.
The ban includes all mass events organized by professional organizations and trade unions in open areas.
Turkey has been in a Covid surge over the past weeks with İstanbul having one of the highest infection rates per 100,000 people.
Previously, three provinces —Kocaeli, Aydın and Denizli— imposed demonstration bans for periods including May 1. (HA/VK)
