Police officers and private security guards have attacked a group of students who wanted to hold an event in the Bornova Campus of Ege University in İzmir on the occasion of March 8 International Women's Day.
Gathering in front of the dining hall of the university, seven students, five of whom were women, have been taken into custody.
It has been reported that the detained students have been referred to the Anti-Terror Department of the İzmir Security Directorate.

In her Twitter post, Kılıç has said, "While we were trying to hold a March 8 event at Ege University, we were taken into custody by the head and ears as 7 women, 1 LGBTI and 1 man."

Another student has also written on Twitter, "Women who tried to hold a March 8 protest were detained."
The following students have been taken into custody: Emek Kılınç, Alev Özkiraz, Pınar Usta, Ezgi Yılmaz, Tuana Uğuz, Hivda Selen and two other male students. (EMK/SD)
