Gendarmerie officers shot a man dead in Diyarbakır, southeastern Turkey, after he allegedly disobeyed a warning to stop.
Mikail Ekinci, 28, was sought by law enforcement as a suspect in the case of a murder committed two years ago.
Early Saturday (April 1), the gendarmerie carried out an operation in the Adalar village to detain the man, who attempted to flee on a motorcycle, the Amida Haber news portal reported.
The officers shot Ekinci after he allegedly disobeyed a warning to stop. He was killed on the scene.
The Çermik Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the incident.
Ekinci's father, Ali Ekinci, said he had been shot in the heart. "This is not a mountainous area. They could have caught him alive if they wanted to," he said, adding that they will file a criminal complaint
