As reported by Cumhuriyet newspaper, CHP Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu addressed the reporters after his visit to the building where the Republic was proclaimed 97 years ago today. Main opposition leader reiterated his call for a snap election in Turkey in following words:
"97 years ago, there was applause, tears and embraces. 97 years ago, the Republic was proclaimed in this beautiful building. They knew better than us how precious the Republic was. They paid a price, laid their friends to rest. The proclamation of the Republic is our biggest revolution.
"I visited this building; it takes you two hundred years before. We have to crown our Republic with democracy in the second centennial. The political institution needs to hear and know the demands of the nation. We are going through difficult days, but this country came together even in its most difficult days and got over all hardships. We will also do so.
"If sovereignty will rest with the nation in this country, as was also written in the 1921 Constitution, one must not be afraid of the nation, one must not be afraid of falling back upon the votes of the nation." (EMK/SD)
