Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has addressed young people with a letter on the climate crisis.
Noting that the climate crisis and the developments associated with it threaten the future, Kılıçdaroğlu has written:
"When the Nation's Alliance is in power, we will establish the Ministry of Climate, which will coordinate the protection and restoration of the natural ecosystem. To a large extent, you will create it."
In his letter to the young, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has briefly said:
'We can change the future'
"Dear young; we are faced with ecological destruction, our world is going far from being habitable at a great pace. Climate change and related developments directly affect the lives of billions of people.
"Air pollution, decrease in forest lands, extinction of species, decrease in clean water resources, loss of quality in arable lands, excessive population growth and similar other factors threaten our future.
Moreover, this threat is like an epidemic. It is like a disease; it knows no borders, it crosses borders and finds us in the middle of our homes. Every tree cut in the Amazon Forests brings Europe one step closer to being flooded. Every forest area razed in Turkey makes the Mediterranean basin even drier.
"Every tap remaining open complicates the struggle for access to water in Africa. It does not make sense for the economies of developed countries to minimize carbon emissions within their borders as the atmosphere polluted by carbon emissions also covers the countries that have freed themselves from thermal power plants and takes their breath away.
"The ecological destruction that we are faced with scares you the most. Your concerns about the future are increasing; you think that you will spend your lives in a worse world than your parents lived in.
"You are right, but we can change it together! You know, in the 'Declaration of the Call to the Second Century', which I penned for the second century of our republic, the title of 'Ecosystem Right for Future Generations' was included; I said that it will be constitutionally guaranteed.
"We would be proud that you were with us in our goal of a deep blue and green, healthy and fertile Turkey. Policies to make our country and our world more livable with international solidarity and at the same time with a national determination are ready. We will implement our ecological leap that will set an example to the world together.
"We will make Turkey the implementer of an ecosystem in line with universal criteria and its pioneer in the world. We will implement an environmental policy that respects the right to life of all living beings, evaluates underground and surface resources in accordance with ecological limits and conditions, is democratic in decision-making processes and is open to the direct control/participation of you, young people.
As in the case of every other field, in climate, nature, ecosystem, we will ensure justice in water, agriculture, urban and rural life, we will not build dams or create obstacles in front of thousands of years of ancient justice of the environment.
"In this context, when the Nation's Alliance is in power, we will establish the Ministry of Climate, which will coordinate the protection and restoration of the natural ecosystem. To a large extent, you will create it.
"Let's turn the most beautiful planet known in the universe into a healthy blue sphere again for you, the youth of today, and your children. Let's start from Turkey! Let's save the ecological future of our country and the world. We can succeed, we can change the future."
