President of France Emmanuel Macron made a statement yesterday evening (April 15), where he addressed the recent strikes on Syria jointly launched by the US, the UK and France on April 14.
In an interview which he gave to BFM TV, RMC Radio and Mediapart news website, President Macron said, "10 days ago, President Trump was saying 'the United States should withdraw from Syria'. We convinced him it was necessary to stay for the long term."
President Macron used similar statements about the strikes with the President of the US Donald Trump and said that the strikes were staged "in a perfect manner."
"Putin thought that 'they were weak'"
Macron also stated that failing so far to get the red lines respected had led the authorities in Russia to think of Western powers that "these people from the international community - they are nice, they are weak. He [President of Russia Vladimir Putin] has understood it is not the case anymore."
Addressing the stance of Turkey towards the strikes, Macron said, "With those strikes, we have separated Russia from Turkey on this. Turkey condemned the chemical weapons." (PT/SD)
