President of France Emmanuel Macron has hosted NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg in Paris.
He reiterated criticism of Turkey's military operation into northern Syria, saying that Ankara cannot expect solidarity from NATO allies while also launching an offensive in Syria as a "fait accompli."
Turkey launched the "Operation Peace Spring" on October 9, following a phone call between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his US counterpart Donald Trump.
Macron called NATO "brain-dead" as Trump did not speak with the NATO allies before pulling troops out of northern Syria, which allowed Ankara to start its incursion.
He stood by his remarks, saying that it was a "useful wake-up call."
Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said Macron's words do not have a meaning for him, when asked by reporters. "He can't be the leader of Europe like this. Leadership comes with artlessness."
