President of France Emmanuel Macron underlined that he will discuss freedom of the press and imprisoned journalists in the meeting he will hold with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan tomorrow (January 5). Erdoğan will be in France tomorrow as Macron’s guest.
“Not only in dictatorships…”
Coming together with press members in Paris, Macron said, “Freedom of the press is not being damaged in dictatorships only but also in some democratic European states as well”.
During the press conference, Macron said, “I will bring the condition of imprisoned journalists in Turkey to the agenda again”.
Addressing the recent situation of the media, Macron added that Turkey and Russia as parties to the European Convention on Human Rights must meet their liabilities.
Presidential Spokesperson: Jerusalem will be discussed in the meeting
Concerning the visit, Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın said, “Regional issues such as Jerusalem, Syria, Iraq and fight against terrorism, and Turkey-EU relations will be addressed in the meeting. Mr. President’s visit will serve the benefit of all region with our mutual cooperation with France”.
Macron recently spoke President Erdoğan on the phone following US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. (PT/TK)
