France's President, Emmanuel Macron, has said life as a world leader is less "cool" than it might seem, citing talks with Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan as an example.
According to Reuters, interviewing with French e Point magazine, Macron said "The global arena is not that 'cool'" in response to a question that "Is he trying to be the new 'cool' guy of the global arena".
"I am the one who has to talk to Erdoğan every 10 days", Macron said when he was asked to give an example.
Following Macron's statement, an aide to Macron's said that the French President had not meant to mock or criticize his Turkish counterpart.
"The conversations with Mr. Erdogan are always very serious," the aide explained.
The last meeting between Macron and Erdoğan was held on August 27. Calling Erdoğan on phone, Macron demanded that the French journalist Loup Bureau being detained in Turkey be released and sent to France. (NV/TK)
