Human Rights Association (İHD) İstanbul Branch starts silent life watch to say “May killings end, may life prevail” in front of Galatasaray High School in Beyoğlu district of İstanbul.
The watch of human rights defenders saying “Killing is not a solution” will begin on January 25 at 6 p.m. and end on January 29, lasting five days.
İHD has made call to participate the watch to say no to more misdoings and killings.
Regardless of who is killed…
İHD stating even wars are conducted within frame of law in line with international agreements, expressed despite that, unlawful curfews have been imposed and over 200 civilians have lost their lives.
“In addition to attacks against civilians and civilian residents that have to be deemed as war crime; way has been paved for conflict due to political reasons while there was opportunity to negotiate political and democratic demands such as ‘self-governance’, ‘local administration’.
“As of the conflict process has begun, even though it hasn’t been exactly determined as many as 1,000 soldiers, police officers, rangers, guerillas, and resisters have lost their lives. Reports of deaths have been increasingly continuing.
“All these killings don’t only have any contribution or benefit to future of peoples living in this region, but also have the tendency to spread seeds of more anger and hatred, and provide basis for bigger conflicts.
“We as human rights defenders, regardless of who is killed, are starting silent peace watch to last five days with our banners advocating our right to live to say “May killings end, may life prevail” with the consciousness and fact that our most basic human right, right to live is being violated.
