Global Peace and Justice Coalition (Küresel BAK) released a statement in downtown Istanbul, urging the government in the wake of a possible military intervention in Syria.
Saying that “the intervention would possibly spill over the conflict and cause more bloodshed in the region”, Küresel BAK said no to “military action in Syria, Turkey’s involvement in the war and Esad dictatorship”.
The coalition activists carried a banner that said “We Are Ready For Peace, Not War. We Want Arm-Free Solution, Not Military Action”.
Activist Bülent Aydın reminded the global campaign against a possible military action in Syria. “Governments must listen to the reactions,” he said.
"Intervention will spill over the conflict”
“Let’s not be among those who attack Syria first. Let’s be the country to lead an arm-free world,” said artist Kerem Kabadayı, reading the coalition statement.
“U.S. administration and its allies are preparing for a military intervention in Syria with the excuse of chemical weapon usage. Turkey is not at all concealing its enthusiasm to be a part of this. On the other hand, Russia is allowing Asad dictatorships cruelty in order to keep its military base.”
Kabadayı continued as follows: “It is possible for Syrian people from all religious and etnic backgrounds to determine their destiny themselves and coexist within democratic principles.”
Emphasizing that the possible military action would worsen the situation of Kurdish people in Rojava region, Kabadayı urged the Turkish government to do the following:
“Let’s not be among those who attack Syria first. Let’s be the country to lead an arm-free world.” (BK/BM)
