The ban on dismissing employees has been extended for two months starting from January 17, according to a Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette today (December 30).
The decree was based on the first and second paragraphs of Article 10 of the Labor Law No. 4857.
With a provisional article added to the Labor Law on April 16, employers were banned from terminating labor contracts for three months, as part of the measures to curb the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Employers were also allowed to put employees on unpaid leave for three months.
The government also introduced the short-time allowance on March 26.
Employees can apply for the allowance if their work times are reduced by at least one-third or operations at their workplace partially or totally halts operations due to "general, economic or sectoral crises or force majeure conditions.
The president has extended the layoff ban and the short time work allowance for two-months periods since July (TP/VK).
